Current Research Interests:
Anatomy and biomechanics of birds, and how it influences their ecology and evolution, especially with respect to feeding. The impact of anatomical limitations on the ability of birds to adjust to change in the environment. I also conduct research in the communication of science to public audiences.

Current Research Projects:
The movement of shorebirds among salt lakes threatened by climate change

The effects of warming oceans on the diets and survival of endangered seabirds

Feather morphology and the mechanics of waterproofing and insulation in birds; the abiiity of birds to adjust their feather coats in response to changes in thermal conditions.
