Welcome to Orientation Advising with SSS!
Please follow the steps below before your scheduled advising appointment.
First-year SSS students in ACES, CLAS (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences), School of Business, School of Engineering, and School of Nursing will meet with a SSS advisor for their fall 2020 course registration advising appointment. Please read this page carefully for important information about this process.
If you haven’t registered yet for New Student Orientation, please do so here and complete all required videos/presentations in a timely manner. Completing them will enable you to get a quicker fall course registration advising appointment and therefore have more options for classes.
1. Prior to your fall registration advising appointment, please complete the following:
a. Complete the SSS Student Information Form. The information you provide will help your SSS advisor learn more about your needs and tailor your advising experience.
b. If you are required to take a mathematics and a chemistry placement exam before you enroll in certain classes, please do so at least 48 hours prior to your Orientation. Not sure if you need to take a placement test? Check out the UConn Course Placement website to learn more.
c. If you have not done so already, please visit familiarize yourself with University technology including PeopleSoft (StudentAdmin) and make sure all your accounts active before meeting with an advisor.
d. Visit the Orientation Advising webpage of your school or college to familiarize yourself with their policies, expectations, and the specifics of your major, as well as to complete any pre-advising forms they may require:
2. Check your email the day before your appointment for important information about your advising session:
You will receive an email from SSS confirming your appointment time, the name and email of the SSS advisor you will be meeting with, and a link to the advisor’s WebEx meeting room, where your advising session will take place. WebEx is the preferred method for advising so that screen sharing of important information can happen. If you do not have access to technology and need to phone into your appointment, please reply to the email when you receive it so we can make other arrangements before your meeting.
